What is the difference between backticks and $() in a Bash
I am using a makefile. In that makefile I have the following command gcc pkg-config --cflags gtk+-3.0-o [email protected] $< pkg-config --libs gtk+-3.0 If I replace the backticks to the bash function call: gcc $(pkg-config --cflags gtk+-3.0) -o [email protected] $< $(pkg-config --libs gtk+-3.0) the makefile fails So, via the make utility, there is a difference. The command line execution does not fail.

I think a better practice for situation you need to concatenate strings with variables is using a template strings: Price: $ {price}, Amount: $ {amount}.
